An analytic network process model for hospital facilities management performance evaluation

Purpose This study aims to establish a rigorous model that can pragmatically evaluate the facilities management (FM) performance of hospitals. Design/methodology/approach Among applicable indicators were identified from extant literature, focus group shortlisted ten key (KPIs) in four categories (safety, physical, financial and environmental) verified their practicality. Using analytic network process (ANP) method group’s responses yielded importance weightings for KPIs developed intended evaluation model. was then validated by case study. Findings From empirical data collected, two types FM scenarios KPI scores identified. To these scores, robust calculation devised proved useful obtaining an overall score holistic hospital performance. The confirmed appropriateness validity developed. Research limitations/implications Through illustrating how ANP could be applied develop model, contributes knowledge multi-criteria decision-making domain. Despite geographical limitation established (i.e. centered around hospitals investigated Hong Kong), serve as reference developing models other buildings or infrastructures globally. Practical implications constitutes practical tool evaluating this on regular basis will enable benchmarking hence, continuous improvement services. Originality/value is first its kind tailored
